A Very Long Time

Been waiting for a very long time
Kept trying on and on and on
Do not know for how long
Surely don’t know when it began
Or if it, perhaps, has already ended

Been waiting for a very long time
But it seems it’s never enough
Proved to be a diamond in the rough
But things just ran out in the sand
Got a letter, but don’t know who sent it

Been waiting for a very long time
Looking for some kind of truth
Ended up with memories from the youth
Somebody grew up to be a man
Whom someone else has befriended

Been waiting for a very long time
Looking at things the hands are holding
But never any kind of controlling
Looking at the scars on the hands
Many things said, but never meant it

Been waiting for a very long time
With a heart aching and very sore
Heartbeats poor, can’t take it no more
Question marks no one understands
The exclamation marks just pretended

Been waiting for a very long time
Not believing what was seen
But they were actually at the scene
Your body was the explored land
And I was only trying to defend it

But I couldn’t.
